StepShot — Privacy Policy
StepShot

Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 15, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the StepShot browser extension (“StepShot,” “the extension,” “we”) handles information. StepShot is designed so that everything it creates stays on your own device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any user data.

In short: StepShot records the steps of a workflow you choose to capture and builds a step-by-step guide from them. The screenshots and text it produces are stored locally in your browser and never leave your device unless you choose to export and share them yourself.

What StepShot processes

While you are actively recording a guide (after you click “Start capture”), StepShot processes the following on your device:

Where this information is stored

All of the above is saved in your browser’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your own computer. It is used only to let you review, edit, and export your guide. It is not sent to us, to any server, or to any third party.

What StepShot does not do

Screenshots may contain whatever is on your screen

Because StepShot screenshots the visible tab when you click, a screenshot can include any information shown on that page at that moment. You control what is on screen while recording, you can review and delete individual steps in the editor before exporting, and all of this happens locally. We never see it.

Exporting

When you export a guide, StepShot generates a PDF (or copies Markdown text) on your device using a bundled, offline library. The resulting file is handled by your browser’s normal download process and is yours to keep or share as you decide. Nothing is uploaded during export.

Permissions

StepShot requests only the permissions needed for its single purpose:

Deleting your data

You can remove all stored steps at any time using “Clear all steps” in the extension. Uninstalling the extension also removes its local storage. Because nothing is stored off your device, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.

Third-party components

StepShot includes the open-source jsPDF library to generate PDFs. It is bundled inside the extension and runs entirely offline on your device. No third-party service receives your data.

Paid features and our promise about your data

StepShot is currently free. We may add paid features or a paid version in the future. If we do, payment would be handled by a trusted third-party payment processor (such as Stripe), which would receive only the billing details needed to complete your purchase — never your captured guides, your screenshots, or information about how you use the extension. Charging for features is not the same as selling data: we will never sell, rent, or trade your data to anyone, whether StepShot is free or paid.

Children’s privacy

StepShot is a general productivity tool, does not collect personal information, and is not directed to children.
